Acer Iconia One 7 – Review

There is always that moment when you think, do I need all of these features in a tablet? Maybe you want to buy a tablet for your mother, young child or someone not tech savvy, and just want a really basic tablet with a low price. This is exactly what we are talking about with the Acer Iconia One 7.

This is an all plastic tablet and because of this a light one too. The dimensions are just: 7.8 by 4.7 by 0.4 inches and it only weights 11.29 ounces. The Iconia One 7 is, after all a 7 inch tablet. The screen is very unimpressive 1,280 by 800 pixel TFT LCD, it has poor resolution and the image is not very crisp, something that other tablets around its price are much better at.

The processor on this tablet is a Dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 with only 1GB RAM. With this number we can’t expect great performance. It will be a good tablet for browsing the web – not opening a lot of tabs – but gaming, even the simpler ones, will be lagging in performance.

Wi-Fi only and some perks.

This small tablet does not have a lot of space for much sensors or antennas. The Iconia one 7 is Wi-Fi only so there is no option for a 3G model. It connects to 2.4GHz band 802.11b/g/n networks. It has Bluetooth 3.0 but what it does not have will make the use of some popular apps very hard: No GPS and no NFC.

It also comes with a standard micro USB port and a MicroSD card slot for expandable memory.

Sound and pictures.

When it comes to audio this tablet has a regular 3.5mm headphone jack right at the top and believe me, you will be using it a lot, the two external speakers – situated on the back – are just dreadful. No one with a slight sense of sound would allow those speakers to play any song they like. It would be an offense to the gods of music.

This tablet comes with two cameras: the front facing one is 1 megapixel, so it would be just like taking your 2005 cell phone and snapping a picture. And there is also the rare facing one with 2 megapixel, not great either.

Models

The Acer Iconia One 7 comes in two models one is $129 and carries 8GB. And the other one is $139 and carries 16GB. Both models are not expensive, but that is not the problem with this tablet. The very dangerous thing for Acer is that for the same price you can get amazing tablet filled with a lot of much more cool features.
