HP SlateBook – Review

Hewlett Packard has been at the lead of innovation when it comes to mixing things up. This is exactly what we are talking about with the HP SlateBook. It is a laptop just like any other, but the operative system running the brains of this machine is Android. Yes, the same Android we are used to see on cell phones, now working on a big screen and a full sized keyboard.

What is inside the machine?

Though the bright yellow colour in the case might not be for everyone – and it only comes in that colour – this 14-inch laptop has a stunning resolution of 1080p. The screen comes equipped with touch screen technology, something needed for a laptop that will only run Android.

When it comes to graphics the HP Slate Book works with the NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor and with 2GB of RAM. The Tegra chip is designed especially for mobile devices and, according to NVIDIA, it is the fastest mobile processor around.

If you need storage, I am sorry to say, this machine is clearly not for you. The version that will be soon for sale will come with a 64GB of onboard storage. In the other hand this laptop has a very nice quantity of peripherals. There is an SD Card slot, two USB ports, one HDMI entrance, and a microSIM card slot. The last one not being a common thing in lower price notebooks, all of these are packed in 3.71 pounds.

Conclusion on the Androidification.

As you might have noticed we did not say anything about the prize of the device yet, the Slatebook will be sold for $429. It’s a good price and definitely gives newcomers space to work with android in a different form factor.

It is important to notice that the Android market is very big and people all around the world use their phones easily. Maybe this could be the transitional device everyone is waiting for. And I would not be surprised if the Slatebook becomes a back to school option this season.

It looks like a great promise, now we need to wait and see how it will be accepted by the public.
